A little traveler has been caught in the rain. Build a shelter with an open entrance so a friend can stop and wait for clear skies.
Before you build with real tiles
- Gather 5 square magnetic tiles with matching edges. Use any colors you like.
- Face the entrance toward you. A floor, three walls and a flat roof make a small open box.
- Place real tiles gently and steady them as you build. Digital snapping shows placement; test stability with your own magnetic tiles.
How to build it, step by step
1. Lay a little floor
Add in this step: 1 square tiles
Lay the yellow square flat to mark a place where a little friend can stop.
Hands-on tip: Place one square tile flat on a level table.
Step 1 / 3 2. Stand up three walls
Add in this step: 3 square tiles
Add the back wall and both side walls. Keep the side facing you open as the entrance.
Hands-on tip: Attach the back wall first, then the left and right walls. Leave the front open.
Step 2 / 3 3. Add a roof for rainy days
Add in this step: 1 square tiles

Hands-on tip: An adult steadies the walls while the child aligns the roof with the top edges of all three walls.
Step 3 / 3
A little help for grown-ups
You do not need to plan a lesson. Use these prompts when you reach a tricky step, or when your child wants to try an idea of their own.
2. Stand up three walls
One builder holds the back wall while the other attaches the sides.
